Thor 3: love and thunder (2022)

The film opens with the tragic origin of Gorr, a devoted believer whose faith collapses after he loses his daughter and discovers that the gods he worshipped are indifferent to mortal suffering. Consumed by grief and rage, Gorr acquires the powerful Necrosword and vows to eliminate all gods, becoming known across the cosmos as the “God Butcher.”

Meanwhile, Thor continues searching for purpose after the Infinity Saga. Though he once fought alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy, he feels emotionally adrift, masking uncertainty with humor and bravado. His journey takes a new direction when he learns that Gorr is targeting New Asgard, now established on Earth as a refuge for Asgardians under the leadership of King Valkyrie.

At the same time, Jane Foster is facing a life-threatening illness. During a visit to New Asgard, the fragments of Mjolnir mysteriously reform and choose her as their new wielder. Transformed into the Mighty Thor, Jane gains extraordinary power—but the magic that strengthens her as a hero weakens her human body, creating a quiet but devastating personal struggle.

Thor and Jane reunite after years apart, their complicated relationship rekindled by shared danger and unresolved feelings. Together with Valkyrie and Korg, they confront Gorr’s growing threat as he abducts Asgardian children to lure Thor into a confrontation. The heroes travel beyond Earth to seek help from other gods, only to find many of them detached from the suffering of mortals—reinforcing the film’s central theme that divinity without compassion is hollow.

As the conflict escalates, Thor’s outlook shifts from prideful warrior to protector driven by love and responsibility. He learns that strength is not defined solely by power, but by the willingness to sacrifice for others. Jane, despite her worsening condition, chooses to continue fighting, embodying courage and selflessness.

The final battle centers not only on defeating Gorr but on breaking the cycle of loss and vengeance that fuels him. Thor ultimately rejects hatred and chooses compassion, altering the outcome of the confrontation and redefining what it means to be a god. The story concludes with Thor embracing a new purpose rooted in care, connection, and emotional growth—no longer searching for identity, but living it.
