Carol Danvers is a former U.S. Air Force pilot whose life changes when she is caught in an accident involving an experimental engine powered by the Tesseract, which grants her superhuman strength, the ability to fly, and energy projection powers. She wakes up on the planet Hala, home of the Kree, with no memory of her past and a new identity as a soldier in the Kree Starforce, led by Yon-Rogg.
Carol struggles to understand her new abilities and the mystery of her lost memories. She learns about a war between the Kree and the shape-shifting alien Skrulls, who are attempting to infiltrate and hide among planets to escape Kree oppression. Initially, she believes the Skrulls are the villains, but as she uncovers her past on Earth, she realizes the truth: the Kree have been manipulating her and are not the heroes she thought they were.
With the help of the Skrull leader, Talos, Carol discovers that she is human and that her powers come from the explosion of the experimental engine fused with Kree technology. She regains her memories and returns to Earth, confronting the Kree and stopping their oppressive plans.
The film also explores Carol’s human relationships, particularly her friendship with Maria Rambeau, a fellow pilot, and Maria’s daughter, Monica, who appears in later MCU projects. Carol embraces her role as a protector of the universe and decides to continue helping those in need, setting the stage for her later appearance in Avengers: Endgame.
